The SKELLIG album takes its name from a piece commissioned especially for this recording. Since the focus of the album was to present a balanced set of compositions by female and male composers, Orla asked Ailbhe – a composer for Boosey & Hawkes - to write a piece for The McDonagh Sisters that represented their collaborative years together as sisters and musicians. SKELLIG signifies aspects of that epic journey, echoed through the iconic SKELLIG Islands, in the Atlantic Ocean off the southwest coast of Ireland. Includes Shostakovich Sonata, Debussy Sonata, Nadia Boulanger 3 Pieces, Fanny Mendelssohn Capriccio, Mendelssohn Song Without Words and McDonagh Skellig.
