Hello, I'm Ailbhe McDonagh. Welcome to my Cello Intermediate series.
You may have already seen my Cello Basics series, which laid the foundation for your playing. This new intermediate series is designed for anyone who has mastered those basics and would like to improve their playing on the cello.
We have a lot of exciting sounds and techniques to cover in this course. Over the coming videos, we will be discovering:
- Vibrato: how to add warmth and expression to your sound.
- Harmonics: creating bell-like tones on the instrument.
- Double stops: playing two notes at the same time.
- Shifting: the art of moving your hand smoothly up and down the fingerboard.
- Positions: we will move beyond 1st position, exploring the fingerboard all the way up to 4th position.
- Tuning: tips on how to improve your intonation and tuning accuracy.
The Approach
Just like the Cello Basics series, we will be learning through a mix of technical exercises and new pieces. We will look at specific exercises that help us master these new physical movements, and then apply them to music so you can enjoy the journey.
